Bronchos Batter Washburn In Home Finale

Central Oklahoma Won 41-7 In Senior Day Celebration

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma beat Washburn 41-7 Saturday afternoon in the last home game of the season for the Bronchos.

UCO improved to 5-5 on the year with the win. Washburn is 1-9.

"We played well today in all areas of the game," UCO head football coach Adam Dorrel said. "We're most proud of a well-rounded effort. It was good to see everyone work together for a good team effort. It was also good to see some of the guys that haven't played as much get on the field and do well. That's important to get those guys any experience you can. It was good all around today."

Washburn won the coin toss, chose to receive, and then marched down the field 75 yards for a touchdown to take a 7-0 lead. The 1-yard score capped off the 11-play drive that took 5:05 off the game clock.

UCO went three & out and punted on the next possession but forced a turnover on downs after that. Central then got on the board with a 24-yard field goal from Nicky Quevedo. The first quarter ended with the same 7-3 score.

Then the Bronchos turned it up a notch in the second quarter, outscoring Washburn 17-0 in the frame.

It all started with a bang. From UCO's own 15, Dawson Herl threw a short pass to Jaylen Cottrell in the backfield at the 10-yard line. Cottrell moved through a hole and found open space, dashing his way down the sideline for an 85-yard touchdown.

UCO scored again on a Herl to Terrill Davis 11-yard touchdown pass to make it 17-7 with 5:26 left in the first half. Quevedo hit a 38-yard field goal with five seconds left in the half to make it 20-7.

The Bronchos put together a 64-yard scoring drive in the third quarter that Stephon Brown capped off with a 3-yard touchdown run. In the fourth, Herl was back in the pocket and found Dominique Dunn for an 8-yard touchdown pass to make it 34-7. Brown scampered into the end zone for a 5-yard touchdown run to put a 41-7 exclamation point on the win.

Central Oklahoma put up 491 yards of total offense on Saturday, with 318 yards passing and 173 yards rushing.

Herl finished 16 of 24 passing with 283 yards and three touchdowns. Brown went 5-for-5 for 35 yards. Brown was also the leading rusher with 55 yards on 12 carries and two touchdowns.

Cottrell led the receiving corps with 106 yards on three catches and the 85-yard touchdown. Davis had three catches for 31 yards and the score. 10 different Bronchos caught a pass on Saturday.

Defensively, Connor Johnson led the way for the Bronchos with eight tackles. He also blocked a punt and broke up a pass. UCO had four sacks in the game. Hudson Grant and Zane Adams both had four tackles and one sack each, Wesley Hudson had two tackles and one sack, and Johnny Wilson had one tackle and that was also a sack.
