Central Oklahoma Drops MIAA Opener

Bronchos Fall 63-47 to No. 3 Central Missouri At Hamilton Field House

EDMOND – Central Oklahoma fell behind in a back-and-forth battle in the first quarter and then struggled to keep pace with third-ranked Central Missouri Thursday night in the first MIAA game of the season.

Central Oklahoma fell to 1-6 on the season with the loss and 0-1 in the MIAA. Central Missouri is 6-0 and 1-0.
 
Alena Wilson led the Bronchos with 12 points and six rebounds. LaKysia Johnson scored 11 points off the bench to give the Bronchos two in double figures.
 
UCO shot just 29.1 percent from the floor, hitting only 16 of 55 total shots. The Bronchos were 3-for-18 from behind the arc (16.7 percent) and 12-for-21 from the free-throw line (57.1) percent.
 
There were seven lead changes in the game on Thursday and all of them came in the first 7:33 of the contest. But when Central Missouri took a 11-10 lead with 2:27 to play in the first quarter, the Bronchos never recovered. UCM finished the first quarter on a 7-0 run to lead 18-11 at the break.
 
UCM outscored the Bronchos 16-11 in the second quarter to take a 34-22 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Bronchos played their best defensive quarter of the season in the third, holding the third-ranked Jennies to just nine points on 3 of 10 shooting. But UCO also struggled and only scored eight in the frame.
 
UCM outscored the Bronchos 20-17 in the final quarter.
 
Caley Young added six points and six rebounds for the Bronchos. Alexis Lewis had five points. Karly Wadsworth, Aliyah Llanusa, and Lexi Foreman all scored three points. Reagan Fox and Tayler Factor both score two points.
 
Central Oklahoma continues its MIAA opening weekend with a Saturday afternoon game against Lincoln. The Blue Tigers improved to 4-2 on the year and 1-0 in the MIAA with a win over Newman Thursday night.
