UCO Outpaced Against Northwestern

Central Oklahoma Falls To 0-2 After 68-60 Setback In Central Region Challenge

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. – Central Oklahoma let a close game slip away at the Central Region Challenge Saturday with the Bronchos falling 68-60 to Northwestern Oklahoma State.

Central is 0-2 on the season after the second loss in as many days to begin the new season.

UCO tied the game, 41-41, with 4:11 to play in the third quarter. But the Bronchos didn't score again until 30 seconds into the fourth quarter. Then Northwestern slowly pulled away, leading by as many as 11 points in the final frame on its way to a second win in as many days to start the new year.

"We let that one get away from us," UCO head women's basketball coach Emma Andrews said. "We had a chance but we got behind and just couldn't get into a rhythm to come back."

The Bronchos shot 40 percent in the game, making 24 of 60 shots. UCO hit 8 of 26 3-point attempts. Central only shot four free-throws in the game, but the Bronchos did make all four attempts.

Reagan Fox led the Bronchos with 13 points, and Talia Pogi, Aspen Williston, and Karly Wadsworth all had 10 points. Aliyah Llanusa, Alena Wilson and Alexis Lewis each had four points, and Natalie Stice (three) and Gracee Miller (two) also scored.

Llanusa led the Bronchos with eight rebounds. Fox and Miller both had three assists. And Llanusa also led the team with four steals. Williston added two blocked shots too.

Central Oklahoma used a 10-2 run over the final three minutes of the first quarter, finishing with a Stice 3-pointer, to get within one point at the break, 18-17.

Pogi started the second quarter with a 3-pointer and the 10-2 run soon became a 17-2 run three minutes into the second frame. Northwestern came back and took a 27-26 lead with just under one minute to play until halftime. It was 30-28 NWOSU at the break.

UCO had a lead on three separate occasions in the third quarter before Williston tied the game with a jumper in the paint. That's when it was 41-41, with 4:11 to play in the quarter. But that's when the drought hit.

UCO trailed 45-41 heading to the fourth quarter but got outscored 23-19 in the final 10 minutes.

Central Oklahoma is 0-2 for first time since 2006. The Bronchos have two more road games next weekend before making their home debut later this month. UCO plays at Cameron Friday, Nov. 17 and at Southern Nazarene Saturday, Nov. 18.

UCO is hosting a Thanksgiving Classic and will meet up with Texas A&M International Tuesday, Nov. 21 and Oklahoma Christian Wednesday, Nov. 22. Newman is also playing those two schools at Hamilton as part of the two-day event.
