Bronchos Back in Win Column

CLAREMORE, Okla. – Karly Wadsworth and Aspen Williston both scored career highs and combined for 50 points as Central Oklahoma beat Rogers State 83-70 in an MIAA matchup Saturday afternoon.
 
Wadsworth scored 30 points while Williston logged 20.
 
"Both of them were really good today but a lot of girls showed up and helped out," UCO head women's basketball coach Emma Andrews said. "Karly has that ability and so does Aspen. It was good to see them play well today."
 
Wadsworth scored 30 points on a late free-throw. She was 7-for-11 from the line in the game. But she got a big boost by hitting five 3-pointers, which tied her career high. Wadsworth went 5-for-8 from behind the arc. She was 9-for-14 overall in the game.
 
Wadsworth added five rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
 
Williston was solid with a couple of big spurts. She finished with a career-high 20 points on 9 of 16 shooting, including two 3-pointers. She added four blocked shots. Williston scored nine points in the first quarter and nine in the third quarter.
 
UCO also got big games from Brooke Rayner, who scored 14 points and had eight rebounds. Lexi Foreman was also big, putting eight points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Eliana Bravington added seven points and four rebounds.
 
Aliyah Llanusa, who had five boards and three assists, scored two points. Kassie Boorer also had two in the game.
 
The Bronchos finished the game shooting 44.8 percent overall, 43.5 percent from behind the arc, and 56.5 percent from the free-throw line.
 
While Rogers State did score the first points of the game with a pair of early free-throws, an 8-0 run by the Bronchos followed. Rayner made a driving layup, Williston knocked down a 3-pointer, and Wadsworth did the same to give UCO the 8-2 lead.
 
The Bronchos had their biggest lead of the opening quarter, nine points, midway through the first stanza. UCO led 21-13 after one quarter of play.
 
Central extended that lead to as many as 11 in the second quarter. While UCO shot just 21.7 percent in the quarter, the Bronchos hit three 3-pointers. Rayner's 3-pointer with 1:58 to play in the quarter gave Central Oklahoma a 34-23 lead.
 
Rogers State hit a 3-pointer on the following possession and worked the score to 34-29 by halftime.
 
The hosts finally got the game back to a tie early in the third quarter, 34-34, but Wadsworth followed with a 3-pointer to put the Bronchos back in front. Williston knocked down three-straight later in the quarter to put the Bronchos up 46-41.
 
UCO made a big run near the end of the third quarter thanks to three straight turnovers forced that led to fastbreak layups. The 9-0 run made it 55-43.
 
The Bronchos finished the third ahead 63-52 thanks to another Wadsworth three at the buzzer.  
 
Central outscored the Bronchos 20-18 in the fourth quarter to maintain its lead and finish off the victory.
 
UCO is back home next week. The Bronchos host Northwest Missouri Thursday night and Missouri Western on Saturday afternoon.
