No. 3 UCO Sweeps Newman

EDMOND – No. 3 Central Oklahoma made it a perfect weekend with a second consecutive 7-0 victory on the tennis courts.
 
UCO defeated Newman Sunday an in MIAA dual at Broncho Courts. Central Oklahoma also beat Emporia State 7-0 on Saturday.
 
The Bronchos improved to 10-1 overall on the season following the weekend sweep and UCO is now 3-0 in the MIAA.
 
"We played well Saturday to get the weekend started and that carried over to Sunday," UCO head tennis coach Joe Vann said. "It was good to play well for our conference matches. We're just getting started but we're off to a good start."
 
UCO took the doubles point from Newman and it didn't take long to do so. Adel-Byanu Abidullina and Tizia Brocks won 6-0 at the No. 2 position in the lineup and Mae Canete and Christine Canete, the No. 1 ranked doubles team in the country, also won 6-0 at the first position.
 
Abidullina and Brocks improved to 9-1 on the season playing doubles together. The Canete sisters are 9-2 this season.
 
As the match shifted to singles play the Bronchos kept up the energy and moved quickly to victory.
 
Mae won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, Abidullina won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles, and Grace Chadick won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles to give Central Oklahoma a 4-0 lead and clinch the match.
 
Nikki Boyar added a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles. That put Central ahead 5-0 in the match.
 
Brocks then won 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5 singles to make it 6-0 UCO. Christine finished off the sweep with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles.
 
Sunday was the fourth shutout of the season for the Bronchos through 11 matches.
 
Central Oklahoma is scheduled for just one match next week. The Bronchos will hit the road for an MIAA contest at Missouri Western next Saturday.
 
UCO returns home the following week and is scheduled to host Fort Hays State and Nebraska Kearney April 14-15.
