UCO Drops Game 2 At Pitt State

PITTSBURG, Kan. – The University of Central Oklahoma baseball team fell short 3-2 at Pittsburg State on Saturday, evening the series to a game apiece for the MIAA squads. Game 3 is Sunday at noon.

"We pitched good today and we played good defense but we couldn't get our baserunners around," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said. "We need to do a better job for our pitchers when they only give up three runs. We'll see if we can get one tomorrow and get the series."

Central Oklahoma trailed 1-0 in the bottom of the first but tied the game up in the third. The scoreboard was stuck on 1-1 for nearly the rest of the afternoon. PSU went ahead 2-1, then 3-1 in the eighth before Central's late rally was cut short 3-2.

Tucker Elliott got the start for the Bronchos and took the loss despite a solid outing. The senior right-hander threw six innings and allowed just two runs – one earned – on five hits. He walked two batters too but struck out nine on the day.

Owen Logan came on in the seventh and threw two innings. He struck out one batter and gave up one run on two hits. A solo homer in the bottom of the eighth gave PSU the 3-1 lead.

Jaden Parsons led Central Oklahoma at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one run scored. He hit a one-out single to right center in the top of the third inning and after Clayton Peterson followed with a single to left field, Parsons scored on Noah Olson's single through the left side.

That tied the game 1-1 in the third.

Garrett Takamatsu went 2-for-5 on Saturday with one solo homer in the top of the ninth inning that made it 3-2.

Peterson also had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-5. Olson, Wyatt Gray and Kaleb Glass all had single base knocks in the game.

Central Oklahoma and Pitt State will play a rubber match on Sunday at noon. The Bronchos won 5-3 on Friday night before Saturday's 3-2 setback.

Central has won 4 of 6 MIAA series so far this season and will go for a fifth series win Sunday.

The Bronchos are scheduled to return home and will play a non-conference midweek matchup against Southeastern Oklahoma State on Tuesday evening at Wendell Simmons Field.
