No. 6 Central Oklahoma Shuts Out UNK

EDMOND – No. 6 Central Oklahoma did it again. The Bronchos earned a 7-0 shutout Friday afternoon in an MIAA win against Nebraska Kearney at Broncho Courts.

Central Oklahoma improved to 13-1 on the season following the win and UCO is now 6-0 in the MIAA. The win was the fifth consecutive shutout in league play for the Bronchos.

"Today was a good performance," UCO head tennis coach Joe Vann said. "It was really windy and that effected both teams, but we did a good job working to overcome that and to get the win.

"It was really good to get a win and to get it with a shutout for our seniors," Vann continued. "It's good to do that for them in their last home match."

Adel-Byanu Abidullina, one of two seniors playing Friday, along with Tizia Brocks, earned a quick 6-1 victory at No. 1 doubles. Mae Canete and Lexi Penn also won 6-2 at No. 3 doubles to clinch the early point for the Bronchos.

Nikki Boyar, the other senior in the lineup, along with Blythe Buntrock, had a 4-2 lead at No. 2 doubles when UCO clinched the point and the match went unfinished.

Central got five more points from singles with straight set victories before making it a clean sweep.

Canete won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles, Abidullina won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, and Grace Chadick won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.

Brocks picked up a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles and Boyar won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 6 singles.

Buntrock won 6-3 in the first set at No. 5 singles but lost 6-0 in the second set. She came back with a 6-3 win in the third set to finish off the shutout victory.

Central Oklahoma is now 6-0 in league play. The Bronchos have won five consecutive league matches 7-0 and have outscored the MIAA 41-1 in six contests.

UCO is back in action Saturday, albeit in west Texas. The Bronchos are traveling to San Angelo, Texas for a matchup with Angelo State Saturday morning.
