No. 4 Central Oklahoma Tops NSU

EDMOND – No. 4 Central Oklahoma didn't waste much time disassembling longtime rival Northeastern State in a 6-1 victory at Broncho Courts Friday afternoon.

Central Oklahoma improved to 8-1 on the season with the win and the Bronchos are now 1-0 in MIAA play.

"We played well today," UCO head tennis coach Joe Vann said. "We got off to a good start in doubles and kept it going in singles play. NSU is a good team and that was a good way for us to start conference play."

Central's top doubles team of Mae Canete and Christine Canete won 6-0 in a mere 25 minutes before Adel-Byanu Abidullina and Tizia Brocks won 6-3 in the second position to give Central the doubles point.

Christine breezed through her opponent at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-1, to make it 2-0 in a hurry. Mae then followed with a 6-4, 6-1 win at the top position to make it 3-0, then Abidullina wasn't far behind, winning 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 singles to clinch the match for the Bronchos.

Grace Chadick also picked up a win at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-3, and Lexi Penn picked up a win at No. 6 singles, 6-4, 6-3, to give Central its six points in the match.

Brocks lost 6-4, 7-5 at No. 5 singles to give NSU its only point in the match.

Central Oklahoma only had this one match this weekend. The Bronchos are scheduled to take on Emporia State and Newman next weekend in Edmond.
