Top-ranked Bronchos Flatten Fort Hays State

HAYS, Kan. (Feb. 5) – Top-ranked Central Oklahoma picked up four major decisions and dominated in all phases to overpower Fort Hays State 34-0 Saturday night at Gross Memorial Coliseum.

The Bronchos gave up just two offensive points while holding a 27-1 takedown advantage, earned a riding time point at all 10 weights and pitched three shutouts in picking up their 17th straight win.

UCO improved to 11-0 on the season and 2-0 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association action heading into Sunday's 2 p.m. showdown against No. 3 Nebraska-Kearney in Kearney, Neb.

"We were pretty solid all the way around tonight," head coach Todd Steidley said. "Defensively I thought we were really good and we did a good job controlling them on the mat.

"It's going to be a battle tomorrow. UNK has a great team and it's tough wrestling tonight and then traveling there tomorrow, but our guys are looking forward to the challenge."

The Bronchos got major decisions from 125 Paxton Rosen, 133 Studd Morris, 174 Tre'Vaughn Craig and Hvy Shawn Streck.

Rosen had four takedowns in opening the dual with a 12-2 rout and Morris – a 125-pounder filling in for injured Tanner Cole – notched two takedowns and a four-point near-fall in a 12-3 romp.

Craig cruised to an 8-0 shutout behind a three-takedown attack, while Streck racked up seven takedowns in a 15-6 runaway that capped UCO's dominating performance.
