Dylan Lucas Earns MIAA Award

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (Dec. 19) -- Central Oklahoma's Dylan Lucas has been named MIAA Wrestler of the Week, the league office announced Monday.

Lucas had a dominating performance in winning the 133-pound championship and earned Outstanding Wrestler honors at the prestigious Midwest Classic over the weekend. The eighth-seeded sophomore went 5-0 with four bonus-point wins, knocking off the Nos. 1, 2 and 5 seeds in the process.

He opened the tournament with a 16-0 technical fall, followed with a 14-4 major decision and then pinned the No. 1 seed in the quarterfinals during Saturday's action. Lucas came back Sunday to score a first-period fall over the No. 5 seed in the semifinals before capping his perfect weekend with a 9-2 finals win over the No. 2 seed.

It's the second time for Lucas to win the conference honor this season. He's now 13-1 with 10 bonus wins for the season, his first at UCO.

The No. 3-ranked Bronchos finished with a tournament-record 178.5 points in running away with the Midwest Classic title, a staggering 83.5 ahead of runner-up Pittsburgh-Johnstown. All 10 UCO wrestlers placed in the top six, with Lucas, Dalton Abney and Shawn Streck capturing individual crowns.
