UCO Stumbles in MIAA Opener

WARRENSBURG, Mo. – A tough fourth quarter did Central Oklahoma in Thursday night as the Bronchos dropped their first MIAA game of the season, 83-65, at Central Missouri.
 
UCO is 3-2 on the season overall and now 0-1 on the season.
 
"We played really well in the first half and were hitting a lot of shots," UCO head women's basketball coach Emma Andrews said. "The third quarter wasn't great, but we still were close, but that fourth quarter was not where we need to be."
 
UCO made just 2 of 15 shots in the fourth quarter and went 0-for-8 from behind the 3-point line. UCO did make all eight of its free-throw attempts in the final stanza, but couldn't keep up at that point.
 
Karly Wadsworth led Central Oklahoma with 24 points. She went 8-for-20 overall and hit 4 of 13 threes, adding a 4-for-4 mark at the free-throw line. Wadsworth also had a team-high four steals and three rebounds.
 
Alayzha Knapp had 17 points, hitting one 3-pointer and four free-throws. She had three steals before fouling out. Aliyah Llanusa also scored in double figures, putting 10 points to go with a team-high five rebounds before she fouled out as well.
 
Central Oklahoma shot 32.8 percent in the game, making 20 of 61 shots. The Bronchos hit 26.9 percent of its shots from behind the 3-point line, making 7 of 26 shots. UCO went 18-for-22 from the free-throw line, an 81.8 percent mark.
 
Central Oklahoma continues its MIAA-opening road trip Saturday when the Bronchos take on Lincoln in Jefferson City, Missouri.
