Central Oklahoma Ousted From NCAAs

BEMIDJI, Minn. – Central Oklahoma's season came to an end Friday evening with a 3-0 loss to Bemidji State in the First Round of the 2022 NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Championship.

Central Oklahoma closed the year with an 11-5-4 overall record.

"We had a few chances early and just couldn't get anything going with our offense," UCO head women's soccer coach Mike Cook said. "But Bemidji is a good team and they were better today. I'm proud of this team for all of their work this year."

UCO took 14 shots in the game and put nine of those on goal, but just couldn't find the back of the net. Bemidji goalkeeper Alyssa Stumbaugh made nine saves in the game.

UCO's defense saw BSU put up 15 total shots, with eight of those on target. Central goalkeeper Caroline Faulkner made five saves.

Central Oklahoma went behind 1-0 in the 21st minute when Bemidji scored an unassisted goal from inside the 6-yard box. After a corner kick, the ball was cleared high into the air and dropped right in front of the goal, where BSU punched it in.

Just moments into the second half, Bemidji struck again. A pass into the top of the box found the foot of a BSU player, who got a shot off within a second of Faulkner diving to grab the ball. BSU took a 2-0 lead in the 49th minute.

Central Oklahoma gave up one last goal in the 87th to make it the final, 3-0.

Amaya Grace took a team-high four shots on Friday, putting one on goal. Monika McGee took three shots and also put one on goal. Eden Jones and Harmony Turner both took two shots. Kylee Wickersham, Madison Linavong and Adria Ramirez all took one shot in the game.

Jones and Turner both put two shots on goal.

Central Oklahoma made its 15th national tournament appearance, and fourth consecutive. UCO has been ousted by Bemidji in each of the last two postseason tournaments.
