Top-ranked Bronchos Rout Central Missouri

EDMOND (Jan. 30) – A trio of first-period falls powered top-ranked Central Oklahoma to a 38-6 drubbing of Central Missouri Sunday afternoon at Hamilton Field House.

The Bronchos got pins from 125 Paxton Rosen, 197 Dalton Abney and Hvy Shawn Streck in winning their 16th straight dual and improving to 10-0 on the season.

UCO also got major decisions from 133 Studd Morris and 184 Heath Gray, while 149 Brik Filippo and 174 Tre'Vaughn Craig pulled out narrow wins and 141 Nate Keim earned a forfeit. The Bronchos suffered a pair of overtime losses in their second-to-last home dual of the season.

"We did some good things, but overall I was disappointed in our performance today," head coach Todd Steidley said. "We looked good at a few weights, but I thought we were really sluggish at a few spots and didn't wrestle the way we need to."

Rosen started the dual in dominating fashion as the sixth-ranked junior raced to a quick 12-1 lead before scoring his sixth fall of the season at the 1:33 mark.

Abney struck for a takedown in the opening seconds, added a four-point near-fall and then registered his eight fall of the year – including the seventh in the first period – just 1:18 into the match.

Streck capped the dual with his third pin is as many outings, getting an early takedown before ending it at the 1:12 mark.

Morris, wrestling in place of the injured Tanner Cole, racked up five takedowns and a near-fall in breezing to a 16-5 rout at 133 and Gray had six takedowns in notching his 49th consecutive win.

Filippo and Craig each prevailed 3-1 behind first-period takedowns. UCO's two losses came at 157 and 165, where Ty Lucas and Hunter Jumper both fell in sudden victory.

The Bronchos go on the road next weekend to face Fort Hays State and No. 3 Nebraska-Kearney before ending the dual season Feb. 13 at home against Newman.
