No. 5 Central Oklahoma Bounces Bearcats

EDMOND – The fifth-ranked University of Central Oklahoma tennis team continued its terror through the MIAA Saturday with a 7-0 win over Northwest Missouri at Broncho Courts.

Central Oklahoma is now 11-1 overall on the year and has a 4-0 record in league play. The Bronchos have outscored their four MIAA opponents a combined 27-1.

Saturday, UCO came out swinging against the Bearcats of Maryville, Missouri and took the doubles point without much hesitation.

Blythe Buntrock and Nikky Boyar cruised to a 6-0 win at the No. 3 spot in the lineup before Adel-Byanu Abidullina and Isabella Dunlap won 6-1 at the No. 1 spot in the Broncho lineup. That clinched the doubles point. Mae Canete and Paola Landin also won 7-5 at the No. 2 spot to give the Bronchos a clean sweep.

Leading 1-0, Dunlap made quick work of her opponent at the No. 3 spot in the singles lineup. She won 6-2, 6-3 to give the Bronchos a 2-0 lead.

Boyar won second, 6-1, 6-0, at the No. 6 spot to make it 3-0, and Abidullina's 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1 clinched the match for Central Oklahoma.

Canete also won 6-0, 6-3 to improve to 11-0 in singles play this season. Landin won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 4. And Buntrock, who is also unbeaten this season in singles play, won 6-2, 4-6, 10-6 at No. 5 to improve to 9-0 this season.

Central Oklahoma is back in action with more MIAA duals next weekend. The Bronchos will travel to Emporia State Saturday before paying a visit to Newman next Sunday.
