Bronchos Win Again!

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - The University of Central Oklahoma beat Northeastern State 6-1 Saturday afternoon in MIAA play to run its win streak to 13 matches.

Central Oklahoma improved to 15-1 overall and 7-0 in MIAA play with the win. And the fourth-ranked nationally Broncho squad clinched at least a share of its first MIAA regular season title with UCO having a perfect record through seven of eight league matches.

Central won the doubles point Saturday with a 3-for-3 performance from its duos. Mae Canete and Paola Landin won 6-2 before Blythe Buntrock and Nikki Boyar won 6-3 to clinch the point for the Bronchos. Adel-Byanu Abidullina and Isabella Dunlap also won at the top position 7-6 (4). 

Landin was the first to finish in singles play. The junior wins leader earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles to give the Bronchos a 2-0 lead in the match. Abidullina then won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 to make it 3-0, Central.

Canete would be the clincher. 

The freshman from L.A., who would improve to a perfect 14-0 this season, won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 2 singles to make it 4-0 Central Oklahoma. 

Dunlap won 7-5, 6-2 at No. 3 singles and Boyar won 6-4, 7-5 at No. 6 singles. Buntrock dropped a 4-6, 6-7 (4) decision at No. 6, ending the freshman's 12-match win streak to start her career.

Central Oklahoma has just one more match left in MIAA play and that is against Missouri Western next Saturday in Edmond.
