No. 4 UCO Sweeps, Again

WICHITA, Kan. – The University of Central Oklahoma tennis team cruised to its second sweep in as many days Sunday with the Bronchos gliding past Newman 7-0 in MIAA play.

The Bronchos are now 13-1 this season overall and on an 11-game win streak. UCO is 6-0 in MIAA play, outscoring opponents 41-1.

Central Oklahoma got the doubles point with wins by Blythe Buntrock and Nikki Boyar at No. 3 (6-1) and Paola Landin and Mae Canete at No. 2 (6-2). Adel-Byanu Abidullina and Isabella Dunlap also won 7-5 in doubles play at the top spot in the Central lineup.

Canete made quick work of her opponent in singles play, winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 before Boyar won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5. That gave the Bronchos a 3-0 lead in the match.

At No. 6 singles, Lexi Penn was playing in the lineup again for the second time this season. And just like her match-clinching win Saturday at Emporia State, Penn did it again, scoring a 6-0, 6-2 victory to give the Bronchos a 4-0 lead and another win.

Abidullina won 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1, Buntrock won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4, and Dunlap won 6-2, 7-5 to give the Bronchos a clean sweep.

Central Oklahoma is scheduled to take a quick break from conference play Tuesday when UCO travels to Shawnee, Oklahoma to take on Oklahoma Baptist.
