No. 5 UCO Cruises Past Cameron

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma tennis team blew past Cameron Tuesday afternoon, winning the non-conference matchup 6-1 at Broncho Courts.

UCO, ranked No. 5 in the country, improved to 6-1 on the season with the victory.

"We didn't play our best today but we found a way to get the wins," UCO head women's tennis coach Jaron Maestas said. "We fought hard and were able to work on some things too. It was a good day and it's always good to get a win."

Central Oklahoma jumped out to an early lead after winning the doubles point. UCO won all three matches to go ahead 1-0 in the match.

Mae Canete and Paola Landin won 6-1 at No. 2, Blythe Buntrock and Nikki Boyar won 6-2 at No. 3, and Adel-Byanu Abidullina and Isabella Dunlap won 6-3 at No. 1 to earn the doubles sweep for the Bronchos.

Cameron scored its only point at No. 6 singles to tied the match 1-1, but Central never balked at cruising to another win.

Abidullina was quick to finish at No. 1, winning 6-2, 6-0. Landin was a moment behind in making quick work of her opponent at No. 4, 6-4, 6-1.

Canete was next up with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 3 to officially clinch the match for UCO and Dunlap picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 3 to give Central a 5-1 lead before Buntrock finished off the match with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 5.

UCO is off this weekend, but will be back in action next week in MIAA play at Nebraska Kearney and Fort Hays State.
