Outdoor Sports Make Schedule Changes

Baseball, Softball, Soccer, & Tennis Cancel Or Postpone This Weekend's Events

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma athletic department made a slew of changes to its schedule due to inclement weather expected this weekend. The UCO softball and baseball teams both cancelled their scheduled games this weekend and the UCO soccer and tennis teams postponed its match.

The Broncho baseball team was scheduled to begin the 2021 season Friday with the third annual Edmond First Pitch Classic. But temperatures dipped below freezing Monday morning and are not expected to get above freezing at any point this week.

UCO is exploring the options of adding games later in the season to make up for its three games lost this weekend. Central was scheduled to play East Central in the season-opener, then Southern Nazarene on Saturday before taking on Oklahoma Baptist in the final game of the EFPC Monday afternoon.

The softball team, which started the 2021 season last weekend and is 4-0 on the season, cancelled the second of its three-weekend softball festival. It may also explore the option of adding games after losing three the Bronchos had scheduled this weekend in Edmond.

Soccer, which is playing a modified spring season after losing its entire fall due to the ongoing health crisis, was scheduled to make its 2021 debut Saturday in Edmond against Dallas Baptist. That game has been rescheduled for next month.

Central's tennis squad, ranked No. 8 in the country, also postponed its matches this weekend in San Angelo, Texas. The Bronchos were scheduled to take on both Dallas Baptist and Angelo State. A makeup date for those matches are being considered.
