UCO Downed By UIndy

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma tennis team fell short in its bid to play for the ITA Indoor National Championship when the Bronchos lost 4-0 to Indianapolis in Saturday's semifinals.

Central Oklahoma (2-1) is hosting the event for the second year in a row and the Bronchos picked up a big win against No. 10 Flagler on Friday night. But Saturday evening, No. 4 UIndy was too much.

"Hats off to them, they're a great team," UCO head tennis coach Jaron Maestas said. "We didn't play well enough today, but I'm still proud of the team for the playing in the national semifinals. And we've got one more Sunday. We're trying to win third place now. That's the focus."

UCO got seventh in last year's inaugural Indoor Championships. Central will play Angelo State in the third-place match Sunday at 5:45 p.m.

Indianapolis took the doubles point Saturday with wins at the No. 2 spot (6-2) and the No. 3 spot (6-3). Central trailed 4-3 in the unfinished No. 1 spot.

In singles play, Central fought back, forcing tiebreakers in the first set of five of the six matches. Unfortunately, UIndy won each of them. Wins at No. 1, No. 3, and No. 6 clinched the match for the Greyhounds.
