Steidley, Jump Win Titles

WICHITA, Kan. (Dec. 5) – Garrett Steidley and Hunter Jump captured individual titles to lead a large contingent of Central Oklahoma placers at the Jet Open Sunday.

The Bronchos sent 16 non-starters and potential redshirts to the tournament and returned with nine top-four finishers in the round-robin event that was hosted by Newman.

UCO also got runner-up finishes from 133 Will Manley and 141 Josh Taylor, while 141 Dylan Avery, 157 Gabe Johnson and 165 Tre'Vaughn Craig all finished third. Kobi Gomez (149) and Barrett Haemker (174) both took fourth.

Steidley went 4-0 in winning the 125-pound title, while Jump took the crown at 165 with three victories.

Steidley collected a first-period fall and also logged 18-0 and 16-1 technical falls to go along with a tight 1-0 win. Jump prevailed 6-3 in his first match before finishing with back-to-back falls.

Taylor actually went 4-0 on the day with three major decisions and a fall before withdrawing and losing by medical forfeit in his final match. Manley was 3-1 with a pair of bonus wins.

The top-ranked Bronchos resume the dual season Friday, hosting Drury for a 7 p.m. contest.
