Craig Wins Title At FHSU

HAYS, Kan. (Dec. 11) – Tre'Vaughn Craig captured the 165-pound title to lead a small group of Central Oklahoma individuals who competed in the Bob Smith Open Sunday.

The Bronchos also got a runner-up finish from 141 Peter Rolle and a third-place showing from 285 Christian Arriola in the all-day tournament hosted  by Fort Hays State. Studd Morris (125) and Ben Parkhurst (174) also competed for UCO.

Craig, who joined the team late after playing football for the Bronchos this fall, went 3-0 in his second open tournament of the season. The junior followed a first-round bye with a tight 3-2 win, cruised to a 17-1 technical fall in the semifinals and ended with an easy 10-3 rout of Pratt Community College's Scott Radke in the title bout.

Rolle went 3-1 in coming in second. The redshirt freshman carded two falls and a 7-4 win to make the finals before falling to Colorado State-Pueblo's Cyruss Meeks 14-6.

Arriola opened his tournament with three straight first-period falls before dropping a tough 2-1 sudden-victory decision to FHSU's 10th-ranked A.J. Cooper in the semifinals. The sophomore bounced back with another fall in the consolation semis, then edged FHSU's Anthony Caldwell 3-2 for the bronze medal.

Top-ranked UCO goes to Indianapolis Dec. 18-19 for the Midwest Classic, which annually attracts most of the top teams in Division II.
