Bronchos Place Nine At Viking Open

POTEAU, Okla. (Nov. 13) – Hunter Jump won the 165-pound championship to lead a contingent of Central Oklahoma wrestlers at the Viking Open Saturday.

The Bronchos finished with nine top-four placers in the all-day tournament hosted by Carl Albert State College. Thaddeus Long (133), Josh Taylor (141), Brady DeArmond (157) and Judson Rowland (Hvy) all finished second, while Gabe Johnson (157), Alex Kauffman (184) and Emmanuel Skillings (197) took third and Barrett Haemker (174) fourth.

Jump went 4-0 on the day in winning his gold medal. The redshirt freshman opened the day with back-to-back falls, posted an 11-6 win in the semifinals and then topped Richard Mack of Northeastern Oklahoma A&M 5-1 in the title bout.

Long went 3-1 in taking runner-up honors. The redshirt freshman had a 12-4 major decision followed by 7-4 and 3-2 wins before dropping a 6-4 finals decision to NEO's Dalen Moore.

Taylor rolled into the finals with a 15-0 technical fall, third-period pin and 9-3 victory before falling in the finals. DeArmond had two first-period falls and a tight 3-2 semifinal win in making the finals

Rowland also had no trouble making the finale. The second-year freshman had an 8-0 major decision, first-period fall and 7-2 victory prior to losing a 10-3 finals decision to returning NEO All-American Dan Baker.

Kauffman went 5-1 on the day, with his lone loss a 3-2 setback in the quarterfinals. Johnson and Skillings both had 4-1 records on the day.
