No. 7 Central Beats Tarleton State

OKLAHOMA CITY – The University of Central Oklahoma tennis team beat Tarleton State 5-2 Saturday afternoon in a non-conference dual at Lifetime Fitness Center.
 
The Bronchos, ranked No. 9 in the country, are now 1-0 on the season.
 
"We played well today," UCO head coach Jaron Maestas said. "We played really well in doubles and that got the day started for us. It's a good start. We still have some work to do, but we'll take the win."
 
Central won all three doubles matches Saturday. Paola Landin and Nikki Boyar, the seventh-ranked doubles team in the country, won 6-2 at No. 1. Isabella Dunlap and Adel-Byanu Abidullina won 6-4 at No. 2, and Mariona Franco and Lotte Lesscher Y Post won 6-1 at No. 3 to give the Bronchos a 1-0 lead in the match.
 
Fracno was the first done in singles play. The freshman won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 to give the Bronchos a 2-0 lead in the match.
 
Boyar was losing at No. 5, however, Tarleton's Gaayatri Shankar retired and Boyar picked up the win and put Central up 3-0.
 
Dunlap's 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles was the match-clincher.
 
Abidullina and Post were the only Bronchos to lose Saturday. Landin earned a three-set victory at No. 3. The junior won 7-5, 4-6, 10-3.
 
Central Oklahoma will return to action next weekend. The Bronchos take on Angelo State in another non-conference matchup at Lifetime Fitness Center.
