As student-athletes at the University of Central Oklahoma we have the platform, opportunities, and the voices, to create and inspire change in our community. We will use our platform to be heard, our opportunity to stand up, and our voices to drive out injustices and create change to make our community safer and more inclusive than before.
Â
We will be heard.
Â
Over the years our country has witnessed acts of injustices based on race, gender, and socioeconomic status. Our community has had to bear this immeasurable pain far too many times. Enough is enough. We will rise hand in hand as one, and we will create change. We will stand together, united as one, to bring change to our families, campuses, community and our country.
Â
This is our actionable plan:
Â
– Ensure all players, coaches, trainers, and administration are registered to vote.
Â
– Ensure time is allowed for our athletic department, student-athletes, coaches, and staff, to vote or follow election coverage.
Â
– Normalize having conversations about our differences – no matter how major – between players, coaches, administration, our respective police officers, governance, and community leaders to build awareness, trust, empathy, compassion, and comradery.
Â
– Discuss with our presidents, directors, and leaders on further ways we can raise awareness about these injustices to continuously empower and uplift our community.
Â
– Continue to work with our community leaders to create outreach initiatives and volunteer/participate in already existing programs.
