Bronchos Downed By Missouri Western

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma men's basketball team lost 83-74 Thursday night to Missouri Western in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play at Hamilton Field House.
 
The Bronchos dropped to 7-14 overall on the season and are now 4-8 in league play.
 
Central found itself in an early hole and fought for the entire first half in trying to comeback. Missouri Western scored the first five points of the game, and led 8-2 four minutes into the first half. UCO made a run in response though. Carson Calavan put the Bronchos on the scoreboard with a steal and fastbreak layup. Camryn Givens made a jumper and the foul, then Alex Ogunseye made back-to-back baskets. The latter cutting the lead to two, 11-9, with 12:54 to play in the first half.
 
Central got within three when Givens knocked down a 3-pointer at the 10-minute mark. But UCO eventually trailed by double digits. Missouri Western led by 13, 35-22, with 4:21 to play in the half. The Bronchos cut it to 10 by halftime, entering the break down 41-31.
 
UCO got as close as five in the second half. A Colt Savage 3-pointer and Dashon Bell layup made it 50-45 with 13 minutes to play. Then Cooper Clark hit  3-pointer to make it 56-51 with 10 minutes to play.
 
Then one final rally by the Bronchos in the end cut to five again, 75-70, with 50 seconds to play. But the Bronchos couldn't get any closer.
 
Bell, Givens, and Calavan all shared the team-high for the Bronchos with 11 points. Savage finished with 10. Dashawn McDowell, who finished with seven points, had a team-high eight rebounds.
 
UCO shot 26 of 65 from the floor, 40 percent, and hit 9 of 22 3-pointers on the night, a 40.9 percent mark. The Bronchos also went 13-for-18 from the free-throw line.
 
Central has one more home game this week. The Bronchos take on Northwest Missouri Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in Hamilton Field House.
