McKittrick No-No Leads UCO Over RiverHawks

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. (April 7) – It wasn't perfect, but it was close.

Bailey McKittrick hit the first batter she faced and then retired the next 15 to polish off a dominating five-inning no-hitter and No. 2-ranked Central Oklahoma walloped Northeastern State 8-0 in the first game of a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association doubleheader Sunday afternoon.

The Bronchos scored five runs in the top of the first inning to establish quick control and that was more than enough support for the untouchable McKittrick, who recorded just the fifth no-hitter in the last 30 years by a UCO pitcher.  The rookie right-hand didn't walk a batter and struck out two in improving to 16-1.

The Bronchos – who improved to 30-3 in reaching the 30-win plateau for the eighth consecutive year -- ended the game with 12 hits.  Casady Webb went 3-for-3 to lead the offense, while Bailey Thompson, Haley Pomplun and Brighton Gilbert had two apiece.

Central had six hits in its first offense try of the game to jump on top 5-0.

Hazel Puempel started the inning with a walk, Thompson followed with a bunt single and both advanced on a wild pitch before Halley Randolph's sacrifice fly plated the first run.

The Bronchos scored their final four runs with two outs, getting an RBI single to right field from Carli Jones, an RBI single to left field from Webb and a two-run double to left from Gilbert.

That big lead was more than enough for McKittrick.

The rookie plunked NSU's lead-off batter in the bottom of the first, but left fielder Lexy Dobson made an outstanding running catch in foul territory for the first out and Jones made a stellar stop on a hard-hit grounder to first in helping get the Bronchos out of the inning.

The RiverHawks didn't come close to a hit the rest of the way.

UCO didn't score again until the fourth.

Gilbert started things with a walk, Puempel singled through the left side and Thompson reached on another bunt single to load the bases before back-to-back RBI fielder's choices by Randolph and JoBi Heath made it 7-0.

Webb finished the scoring in the fifth with her fifth home run of the season, crushing the ball over the fence in straightaway center field.
