TOPEKA, Kan. - The University of Central Oklahoma tennis team came up on the short side of a 4-3 dual Saturday, with the seventh-ranked Bronchos losing to the sixth-ranked Washburn Ichabods in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play.

UCO is now 12-3 on the season and 6-1 in the MIAA. Washburn is 17-1 and 7-0 in league play.

Central Oklahoma earned the doubles point Saturday, getting an early 1-0 lead in the match. The Bronchos picked up wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to do so.

Sarah Van Eeckhoudt and Alix Williams won 6-2 at No. 2 doubles before Washburn won 6-1 at the top spot. Adel-Byanu Abidullina and Nikki Boyar won 6-4 at No. 2 to seal the point.

In singles play, Washburn recovered from a deficit by winning at No. 2, No. 5, and No. 6 to take a 3-1 lead in the match.

Abidullina won at No. 1 singles. The 26th-ranked freshman won 6-3, 6-2 over her 18th-ranked opponent. That made it 3-2. But Washburn then got a win at No. 5 to clinch the match.
