Central Downed By Washburn

EDMOND - The University of Central Oklahoma baseball team dropped Game 2 of its three-game Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association series with Washburn, falling 8-2 Saturday afternoon at Wendell Simmons Field.

The Bronchos are now 29-16 on the season after the loss and 18-11 in the MIAA. UCO and Washburn will play the rubber match Sunday at 1 p.m. Central Oklahoma will honor its eight seniors before the game.

"We didn't play well today and we really didn't compete well," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said. "We need to be more locked in tomorrow and get one back."

Philip Scott hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning to put Central up 1-0 on Saturday, setting the Bronchos up for a good start. But UCO's bats were cold aside from that.

Carson Green added a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning. UCO had just two singles in the third between the two homers. The Bronchos added a single following Green's home run, but again, couldn't get any baserunners to move around.

Gabe Littlejim took the loss for the Bronchos. He threw five innings, allowed nine hits and six runs, three of which were earned. He also walked a batter and struck out two.

Colton Croft threw two innings and kept Washburn at bay. He allowed only one hit. Spencer Van Scoyoc replaced Croft in the eighth and allowed two runs on three walks. Ty Medina also made an appearance, allowing one hit that scored the two runs charged to Van Scoyoc.

Central Oklahoma and Washburn will meet in the final game of the series Sunday at 1 p.m. It's the final home game of the 2019 regular season for the Bronchos.
