McKittrick, Bronchos Blank Missouri Southern

JOPLIN, Mo. (April 26) – Bailey McKittrick tossed a complete-game three-hitter and top-ranked Central Oklahoma blanked Missouri Southern 6-0 in the first game of Friday afternoon's doubleheader to clinch at least a share of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association championship.

The Bronchos -- playing their first game since taking over as the No. 1-rated team in NCAA Division II earlier this week -- improved to 39-4 overall and 21-2 in the league.  UCO will look to secure the outright conference title in the second game.

Lexy Dobson went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in to lead a 10-hit attack.  Bailey Thompson and Halley Randolph had two hits apiece, while JoBi Heath drove in three runs.

McKittrick was never in trouble against the Lions, who advanced just one runner to second base.  The rookie right-hander walked only one and struck out three in throwing her 12th complete game of the season.

McKittrick improved to 20-2 on the season, becoming just the ninth pitcher – and third freshman – to reach the 20-win plateau.

UCO managed only a Randolph single through the first three innings before breaking the scoreless deadlock with a pair of runs in the fourth.

Thompson led off the frame with a bloop double to center field and went to third on Randolph's perfectly placed bunt that rolled past the pitcher for a single before scoring on Heath's groundout.

Pinch-runner Haley Pumplun went to second on that play and made it 2-0 when she raced around to score on Dobson's single down the right field line.

The Bronchos threatened in the sixth after consecutive one-out singles by Dobson and Allie Eicher, but couldn't push anything across and the lead stayed 2-0 until UCO broke it open in the seventh.

Thompson got things started with a one-out single through the right side, Randolph reached on a walk and Heath cleared the bases when she ripped a line-drive double – her 21st of the season – to right-center.

Carli Jones reached on a fielder's choice to keep the inning going, then Dobson roped an RBI single to center field for her third hit of the game before Eicher's sacrifice fly pushed the advantage to 6-0.
