No. 8 UCO Cruises Past Cameron

LAWTON, Okla. – The University of Central Oklahoma tennis team breezed through Cameron Wednesday afternoon, winning the non-conference road matchup 7-0 at CU's Streich-Henry Tennis Complex.
 
The Bronchos are now 15-3 on the season with the win. Wednesday was Central's sixth shutout of the season, fifth 7-0 win, and second consecutive win by that same margin.
 
Sarah Van Eeckhoudt and Kirtana Bhat teamed up at No. 3 doubles for just the third time all season, but showed no signs of dysfunction as the duo raced to a 6-1 win. Isabella Dunlap and Paola Landin, ranked 16th in the country, followed that with a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles to clinch the early point for the Bronchos.
 
Adel-Byanu Abidullina and Nikki Boyar won 7-5 at No. 2 doubles to make it a sweep for the Bronchos. It was the 10th-match this season UCO has won all of the doubles matches.
 
In singles competition, Boyar was first to finish, giving the Bronchos a 2-0 lead after winning 6-1, 6-4 at No. 5. Boyar, a freshman from San Antonio, Texas who is ranked No. 70 in the country, improved to 12-5 with the win and is now 7-3 in her last 10 matches.
 
Abidullina made it 3-0 with her win at No. 1. Also a freshman, Abidullina cruised to a 6-1, 6-4 win over Cameron's top-rated player, Sarah Frendo. Abidullina moved up to No. 8 in this week's ITA rankings. Frendo is ranked fourth in the country.
 
Van Eeckhoudt officially clinched the win for Central Oklahoma Wednesday. She won 6-3, 6-2 at No. 6 to make it 4-0, UCO.
 
Dunlap won 1-6, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2, Landin won 6-4, 6-7, 10-8 at No. 3, and Bhat won 6-4, 6-7, 10-4 at No. 4 to make it a perfect day for the Bronchos.
 
UCO will visit another Lone Star Conference team Thursday, taking on Midwestern State in Wichita Falls, Texas at 2 p.m. Thursday's dual is the final match of the 2019 regular season for the Bronchos.
