UCO Takes Game 2 In Tahlequah

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - The University of Central Oklahoma beat Northeastern State 6-5 Friday in the first game of a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association doubleheader at Rousey Field.

Central Oklahoma is now 23-13 with the win and 14-9 in the MIAA.

Brock Ruminer led off the top of the ninth with the game tied 3-3 nailing a triple to right center. After Dru Barrier walked, and NSU got the first out of the inning, TJ Black laid down a bunt on the third base line as Ruminer darted for home. Ruminer made it home easily with his lightning speed and Black beat out the throw to first.

With UCO up 4-3, Black and Barrier executed a double steal that Barrier scored on to give the Bronchos a two-run lead. Black would score too in the inning off a fielder's choice play when Paul Kropf smacked a hard hit ball to third base.

UCO gave back a pair of runs in the bottom half, but Junior Obeso finished off the Broncho victory, earning his second save of the season.

Landon Bond picked up the win to improve to 3-0 on the season. The lefty senior threw one inning, striking out three in the bottom of the eighth before UCO's rally.

Colton Croft got the start for the Bronchos, and though he allowed two hits, was off to a solid start. However, the second hit he allowed, in the bottom of the second, was a line drive that tagged Croft in the elbow. He did not throw another pitch.

Ty Medina came out of the pen and threw six solid innings. Medina allowed three hits and three runs - one in each of the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. Medina also struck out four along the way.

Kyle Crowl gave UCO an early lead with a solo home run in the top of the first inning. It remained 1-0 until NSU rallied with three straight innings of scoring one run. The Bronchos responded though, scoring one each in the seventh and the eighth.

Taylor Avila led off the seventh with a double to left field, moved over to third on a sacrifice bunt by Ruminer, and then scored on a groundout by Barrier. That made it 3-2.

UCO tied the game in the eighth. Black led off with a single and Philip Scott followed with one of his own. Crowl then knocked an RBI single into the NSU outfield.

Crowl's 2-for-4 day led UCO. He scored one run and had two RBIs. Black was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and one RBI. Scott, Avila, Ruminer, and Barrier also had one hit each on the afternoon.

UCO and Northeastern play Game 3 in the series later Friday.
