UCO Cruises Past Southern Arkansas

LAWTON, Okla. – The 11th-ranked University of Central Oklahoma tennis team whipped Southern Arkansas 4-0 Friday in a neutral site non-conference matchup for the Bronchos.

UCO improved to 4-2 on the season with the win.

"Southern Arkansas is a really good team and they have some really good wins so far this year," UCO head tennis coach Jaron Maestas said. "I'm proud of the team for staying focused and working hard to get the win."

Paola Landin and Isabella Dunlap, the 11th-ranked doubles team in the country, cruised to a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles before Kirtana Bhat and Adel-Byanu Abidullina cruised to a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles to secure the doubles point and quickly, UCO had a lead in the match, 1-0.

It wouldn't take long after the break for the Bronchos to secure the match.

Abidullina won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 to make it 2-0, UCO. Then Landin won by the same score at No. 3 to put the Bronchos within a point of victory. Nikki Boyar's 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 5 clinched the match and the 4-0 win.

Dunlap was up after winning the first set at No. 2 before the Bronchos clinched. She, Bhat, and Sarah Van Eeckhoudt all went unfinished in singles play. Van Eeckhoudt and Boyar also didn't finish their No. 3 doubles match as the Bronchos rushed through Southern Arkansas.

Central Oklahoma's return to the court will have to wait. The Bronchos were scheduled to play at Oklahoma Baptist on Tuesday, but that match has been postponed due to weather. UCO will now host Southwest Baptist on Friday, March 15 at 1 p.m. on Broncho Courts.
