Central Oklahoma Drops Series Opener At Central Missouri

WARRENSBURG, Mo. - The University of Central Oklahoma baseball team came up short, 4-2, against Central Missouri in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association series opener at Crane Stadium.

The Bronchos are 10-6 following the loss, and 3-4 in league play. The two schools will play Saturday at 2 p.m. before concluding the series on Sunday at 1 p.m.

"We didn't come through enough at the plate," UCO head baseball coach John Martin said. "We had our chances and didn't come through. We need to re-focus and be better tomorrow and try to even the series."

Dylan Hall got the start for the Bronchos Friday and suffered his second loss of the season. He's 3-2. He struck out two, allowed seven hits and a walk, and three earned runs.

Junior Obeso threw one inning of relief work, allowing one run on one hit. Brayden Nelson also threw Friday. He struck out two batters and allowed one hit in his one inning of relief work.

Kyle Crowl and Paul Kropf got UCO its two runs. Kropf hit a solo home run in the to of the seventh inning to make it 2-1. Crowl reached on an error on the next at bat, advanced to second on a throwing error after Central Missouri failed a pickoff attempt. He moved over to third on a fly-out from Brice West, and then scored on a wild pitch to tie the game, 2-2. 

Dru Barrier's 2-for-4 day led the Bronchos at the plate. The junior outfielder is the only player  with an extra base hit for the Bronchos. He hit a double. Brock Ruminer also had a hit on the day. Central Oklahoma managed just four hits against UCM.

Game 2 of the three-game series is scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m.
