No.7 UCO Wins 7-0 Over Griffons

EDMOND - The University of Central Oklahoma beat Missouri Western 7-0 Saturday afternoon in a Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association dual at Oak Tree Tennis Center.

The Bronchos cruised to earning the doubles point, winning the first two matches in under 30 minutes. UCO would sweep all three doubles matches to go up 1-0 in the match.

The quick work became a theme.

Central finished off the match with a 4-0 lead in under two hours, and would quickly find its way to a 7-0 shutout to improve to 10-2 on the season. The win is the ninth in a row for the seventh-ranked Bronchos.

"We fought hard today and it's always good to win a conference game," UCO head tennis coach Jaron Maestas said. "We've been using all eight of our girls the last couple of weeks and the depth we have is showing to be really good. It's nice when you can shuffle your lineup and it seems that you don't miss a beat."

Isabella Dunlap and Paola Landin, ranked 16th in the country, didn't falter in winning 6-0 at No. 1 doubles. Sarah Van Eeckhoudt and Alix Williams won by the same score at No. 3 doubles to clinch the point for the Bronchos. Adel-Byanu Abidullina and Nikki Boyar won 6-4 at No. 2 doubles to make it a clean sweep.

Saturday was the fourth straight dual the Bronchos won all three doubles matches. UCO is also 10-2 in doubles matches in four MIAA duals this season.

In singles play, Van Eeckhoudt cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win. Dunlap won 6-1, 6-0 and Landin won 6-1, 6-2 to put UCO up 4-0 and clinch the match.

Boyar wasn't far behind, winning 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 to make it 5-0.

Missouri Western put up a fight, at least in keeping the scores closer. Abidullina was pushed to the limit at No. 1 singles, but still found her way to a 7-5, 6-3 win. Jessica Le was tested too, in a 7-6 first set, but then cruised to a 6-0 in the second set to finish off the 7-0 shutout.

Central Oklahoma returns to the court Sunday, facing off in another MIAA contest against Northwest Missouri at 10 a.m. The match will also be played at Oak Tree.
