No. 7 Rolls Through OBU

EDMOND - The University of Central Oklahoma tennis team made quick work of Oklahoma Baptist Thursday afternoon, winning 5-2 in a non-conference matchup at the Oak Tree Tennis Center.

Central Oklahoma, which is ranked No. 7 in the country, is now 9-2 on the season and winners of eight-straight matches. 

"We played well today," UCO head tennis coach Jaron Maestas said. "OBU is a good team and it was good to see our team come out and fight for it."

Central Oklahoma jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the match after securing the doubles point in a flash. 

Adel-Byanu Abidullina and Kirtana Bhat, ranked 46th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's national doubles rankings, won 6-0 at No. 2 doubles before Isabella Dunlap and Paola Landin, ranked 16th nationally, won 6-1 at No. 1 doubles.

Sarah Van Eeckhoudt and Alix Williams also won 6-4 at No. 3 doubles to give UCO a sweep. Thursday is the fifth time in 11 matches this season that UCO has swept doubles play, and the second consecutive match.

After the break, it didn't take Central much longer to finish off the win. 

Landin blew through the competition at No. 3 singles, winning 6-0, 6-1. Van Eeckhoudt also won quickly, beating her opponent 6-2, 6-2. Jessica Le won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6 singles to give UCO a 4-0 lead and clinch the match. 

Dunlap also won in singles play, edging out a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles. OBU picked up its only wins at No. 1 and No. 4 singles.

Central Oklahoma will remain at home throughout the weekend. The Bronchos host Missouri Western on Saturday at noon before hosting Northwest Missouri on Sunday at 11 a.m.
