Central Drops Road Match At UTEP

EL PASO, Texas – The University of Central Oklahoma tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to the University of Texas El Paso Saturday afternoon.

The Bronchos are now 2-2 on the season following the loss. It's the second straight loss for UCO to a Division I opponent.

UTEP gathered the doubles point Saturday. The Bronchos jumped out to a 1-0 lead after DII 11th-ranked Paola Landin and Isabella Dunlap won 6-3 at No. 1 doubles – a big win for the Bronchos.

But UTEP responded with wins at No. 2, 6-2, and No. 3, 7-6, to take the 2-1 lead and go up 1-0 in the dual.

Nikki Boyar evened the match with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles, making quick work of UTEP's Kathleen Percegona.

After UTEP regained the lead with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 6 singles, Landin once again evened the match for the Bronchos. The sophomore won 6-1, 6-4 at No. 4 singles to make it a 2-2 match.

Central though would drop each of the last three matches.

The Bronchos now head back to Las Cruces, N.M. for its third match in as many days. UCO will take on Western New Mexico before returning from its road trip.
