UCO Wraps Up Road Trip At Washburn

TOPEKA, Kan. –
The University of Central Oklahoma women's basketball team wraps up a three-game road trip with a Saturday afternoon showdown against Washburn in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play at Lee Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
 
The Bronchos are 15-9 on the season and 6-8 in the MIAA. Washburn is 16-7 overall and 11-3 in league play, which is good for second place.
 
"We need to play our style of basketball and do it well for all four quarters," UCO head women's basketball coach Guy Hardaker said. "We've done that, and we've played well for only three quarters of a game. We need to focus on playing well for all four quarters if we want to go in there and get a win."

UCO is coming off a 71-64 loss to Emporia State on Thursday night. The Bronchos did a good job in making 13 shots from behind the arc. Micayla Haynes and Shatoya Bryson both sank four 3-pointers.
 
The Bronchos average eight made 3-pointers per game this season, but have on eight occasions, made 10 or more. UCO is 6-2 in those games.
 
Haynes leads the Bronchos with 44 made 3-pointers this season. The junior guard is 44-for-111, 39.6 percent, on shots from behind the arc. Bryson is second on the team with 37 made 3-pointers this season. She is 37-for-103, 35.9 percent.
 
Blake Blessington, who sank three from outside on Thursday, has made 34 threes this season.
 
Haynes' 11.8 points per game average is also tops on the team. Bryson averages 10.4 and Blessington 8.9. Ireon Smith averages 11 points per game this season and is the team's leading rebounder at 7.6 per contest.
 
Central Oklahoma averages 36.3 rebounds per game. The Bronchos have six times pulled down at least 40 rebounds are are 6-0 in those games this season.
 
Washburn hosts Central Oklahoma on a two-game win streak, which follows a recent two-game losing streak for the Ichabods of Topeka, Kan. WU averages 67 points per game this season and as a team shoots 43 percent from the floor.
 
Washburn isn't much of an outside shooting threat, averaging five made 3-pointers per game and averaging 29.9 percent on shots from behind the arc.
 
Reagan Phelan and Taylor Blue each average 11 points per game for Washburn. Hunter Bentley also averages double figures at 10.4 points per game. Bentley is the team's leading rebounder at 5.6 per game, while Blue averages 5.3 rebounds per game.
 
Central Oklahoma will spend the rest of the regular season at home. The Bronchos host Fort Hays State and Nebraska Kearney next weekend in Edmond before hosting Northeastern State and Emporia State in two weeks at Hamilton Field House in what is the final week of the 2018-19 regular season.
 
The Bronchos are aiming for a sixth-straight trip to Kansas City for the MIAA Tournament in March. UCO needs to win just two of its final five games to clinch a berth in that tournament.
