Central Outlasted In Exhibition At ORU

TULSA, Okla. – The University of Central Oklahoma men's basketball team dropped an exhibition contest with Oral Roberts Saturday night, falling 69-57 to the in-state Division I foe at The Mabee Center.

Camryn Givens led the Bronchos with 18 points and a team-high five rebounds. He was one of four Bronchos to grab five boards on the night. Dashawn McDowell (nine points), Justin Nimmer (seven) and Seth Hurd (five) all had five rebounds as well. Colt Savage and Dashon Bell also added seven points in the scoring load for Central Oklahoma.

UCO shot 21 of 51 from the floor, hitting 3 of 12 3-pointers and 12 of 18 free-throws.

Central never led in the exhibition Saturday. The Bronchos found themselves down 11-0 in the first half. Givens put UCO on the board with a layup at the 13:28 to play in the opening half. The Bronchos got within seven on two separate occasions in the first half. Givens knocked down a pair of free-throws with 6:49 to play to make it 21-14, and then he hit three free-throws with 1:28 to play in the first half to make it 28-21.

The Bronchos battled much closer in the second half. UCO cut the lead to five, 32-27, within the first three minutes of the half. Givens scored the first four points of the half for the Bronchos before Bell laid up a bucket to cut it to five.

ORU answered with a 3-pointer two minutes later, but the Bronchos worked it back down to five points once again, with a basket, and-1 from Givens, that made it 35-30 with over 16 minutes left in the game.

UCO kept with that range for the first six minutes of the second half before ORU made a run to push its lead to 12, 48-36, with 10 minutes to play in the game. The Golden Eagles would lead by as much as 18 down the stretch before the Bronchos whittled it down to 12 as the game ended.

The contest won't go against the Bronchos, who are 3-7 on the season. UCO will return to official action on Tuesday. Central hosts Oklahoma Baptist at 7 p.m. inside Hamilton Field House in the final non-conference game of the season for the Bronchos. UCO will also travel to Newman in Wichita, Kan. next Saturday in the final game of the 2019 portion of its 2019-20 schedule.
