UCO Cruises To Win Over Northwestern

ALVA, Okla. – The University of Central Oklahoma women's basketball team won its second game in as many days at the MIAA/GAC/NSIC Challenge at Northwestern, beating the hosts 84-49 on Saturday evening at Percefull Fieldhouse.

Central Oklahoma continued its high scoring offense on the early season. After scoring 80 on Friday and shooting nearly 50 percent from the floor and 40 percent from behind the arc, Central replicated that success Saturday. The Bronchos scored 82, shooting 45 percent from the floor and 44 percent from behind the arc, hitting 12 3-pointers on the day.

Micayla Haynes led the team with 14 points on 5-for-8 shooting and was a perfect 4-for-4 from behind the arc. She added six assists and four rebounds. Jaci Littell added 12 points and five rebounds. She hit three from behind the arc. Kelsey Johnson added to the leaderboard with 11 points and nine rebounds.

UCO jumped out to a double-digit lead early. The Bronchos hit 9 of 16 first quarter shots, including 3 of 6 from behind the arc.  The Bronchos build a 23-5 lead, their biggest of the game, late in the first quarter. Central led that score after the first 10 minutes of play.

UCO dipped slightly in the second quarter, but still maintained its lead. NWOSU's 18-point deficit after one quarter moved only to a 15-point halftime margin. UCO picked up the pace again in the third, outscoring NWOSU 23-17 to push its lead back over 20 points. Central scored 24 in the final quarter, its most on the night.

The Bronchos had 12 players score on Saturday – everybody that played got on the scoreboard. Kaci Richardson added 10 points on 4-for-5 shooting. Brooke Rayner chipped in eight off the bench, and McKenna Pulley and Lauren Chancellor both had seven. Shatoya Bryson led a defensive charge with a career-high five steals.

Central Oklahoma will return home following a 2-0 weekend in Alva. The Bronchos make their home debut Wednesday night with a 5:30 tipoff against Arkansas-Fort Smith.
