UCO Dominates Fort Smith In Home Opener

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma women's basketball team crushed Arkansas-Fort Smith 84-55 Wednesday night at Hamilton Field House in a non-conference matchup.

Every player that stepped on the court for Central on Wednesday scored at least one basket. It's the second game in a row that has been the case for the Bronchos. It's also the third consecutive game that the Bronchos have scored at least 80 points.

"I don't think we played very well tonight overall," UCO head coach Guy Hardaker said. "We didn't play very well early in the game and it got a little better. But overall, I'm still happy with the win and I'm happy we got to play everybody and that everybody scored."

The Bronchos got a career high from Brooke Rayner off the bench. The sophomore poured in 16 points in 20 minutes of play. Aliyah Llanusa was the game's second leading scorer, with the freshman putting in a season-high 13 points – also off the bench – in 18 minutes of play. Rayner (6-for-10) hit a pair of 3-pointers. Llanusa (5-for-5) also made one from outside.

Clary Donica also scored in double figures, adding 10 points and four rebounds to go with two steals. Shatoya Bryson also scored 10 points and added a career-high five steals.

Central Oklahoma led wire-to-wire Wednesday night. Donica made a layup to open the scoring on the night one minute into the action. She made another layup a minute later that made it 4-0, then Kelsey Johnson knocked down a pair of free-throws to make it 6-0.

UCO led by as many as 13 in the quarter. Donica hit a free-throw with 46 seconds left, then stole the ball and took it all the way for a layup with 26 seconds to go that put the Bronchos up 22-9.

Central stretched its lead to 14 midway through the second quarter and held a 12-point lead, 36-24, at halftime.

UAFS made a short run in the third quarter to cut the lead from 12 to eight, and eventually six, in a spirited start to the third quarter, but the Bronchos settled and got back to its dominating ways with an 11-0 run. Fort Smith's rally cut it 38-32, but the Bronchos then made it 49-32 and never looked back.

UCO turned it up in the fourth, outscoring Arkansas 33-17 to reach the final tally.

Kaci Richardson added eight points off the bench for the Bronchos to go with six rebounds. Jaci Littell scored seven to go with three boards. Johnson added six points and a game-high eight rebounds. Lauren Chancellor (five), Micayla Haynes (four), Tayler Factor (two), Maddie Harelson (two), and McKenna Pulley (one) rounded out the scoring for the Bronchos.

Central Oklahoma opened a four-game homestand Wednesday night. The Bronchos will host Southern Nazarene Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
