Central Ends Regular Season With Shutout Win

CLAREMORE, Okla. – The University of Central Oklahoma soccer team beat Rogers State 1-0 Sunday afternoon in the final game of the 2019 regular season.

The Bronchos finished the regular season 12-4-2 and have a 7-4-0 record in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. UCO has clinched a spot in the MIAA Tournament that starts Friday, Nov. 8, but the Bronchos won't learn their postseason fate until Tuesday. A makeup game between Central Missouri and Fort Hays State will decide the fourth-seed in the tournament. A win by UCM and the Bronchos will host Fort Hays on Friday. A win or a tie by FHSU and the Bronchos will visit Hays, Kan. To open the playoffs.

Central got a first-half goal from Kelsie Eason, a bottom right shot that put the Bronchos on the scoreboard in the 38th minute of play. That was all UCO needed as the Bronchos beat Rogers State for the second time in as many tries this season.

"We didn't put away enough of our chances, but we'll take the win," UCO head soccer coach Mike Cook said. "We need to put more points on the board when we have a chance. But I am glad that we got the win and we played well defensively. I'm glad we got the shutout too."

It's the second straight game for the Bronchos to win 1-0 and the second straight game for Eason to handle the scoring load for UCO. Central has won four in a row overall to finish the regular season on a win streak.

Kaitlyn Asher earned the win in goal for the Bronchos Sunday. She only made one save on the day though as the defense in front of her kept chances at a minimum. RSU took 10 shots all day, but only put one on goal.

Central took 23 shots on the day and put seven on goal. Eason's six led the way, while Haley Post took four shots. Four other Bronchos took two shots apiece and 11 Bronchos took at least one shot.
