UCO Opens Season At Home Sunday

No. 13-ranked Central Oklahoma makes its 2019-20 debut Sunday when the Bronchos host NCAA Division II rival Drury for a 4 p.m. dual at Hamilton Field House.

It's the first-ever meeting between the two and matches a UCO program that has captured 15 national championships against one in its fourth year of existence.

"We have high expectations for this season and are really excited about getting started," said head coach Todd Steidley, who has a 43-9 dual record entering his fourth year at the helm. "Drury is one of the newer programs in Division II, but they've done a great job getting things going and I expect a tough dual."

The Bronchos have eight starters back from last year's 12-4 dual team that finished 16th in the national tournament. The Panthers from Springfield, Mo. return 13 lettermen from a squad that went 4-7 in duals a year ago.

Leading UCO is All-American 184-pounder Heath Gray, who went 36-2 with 21 bonus-point wins last season in finishing third at the national tournament. He enters the season ranked second nationally.

The Bronchos will have one other ranked individual in Sunday's dual in No. 7 Nate Keim at 141. He finished 18-8 last season and is a returning national qualifier who came within one win of earning All-America honors.

Other returning starters expected to be back in the lineup for the Bronchos in the opener are 125 Tanner Cole, 133 Noah McQuigg, 149 Brik Filippo and 157 Ty Lucas.
