UCO Tops Newman In Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. – The University of Central Oklahoma soccer team earned a 1-0 win over Newman in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play Friday night.

The Bronchos improved to 11-5-2 overall with the win and now have a 6-4 record in league play. UCO has won three consecutive games.

"We played well tonight, but we know we can play better. We're happy to get out of here with a conference win," UCO head soccer coach Mike Cook said. "Anytime you walk off the field with a win is a good thing, but we're not satisfied. We know we can play better."

Central Oklahoma got a 75th minute goal from Kelsie Eason and that was more than enough. Kaitlyn Asher picked up her fourth shutout of the season as the Bronchos maintained its position in the top four in the league standings as teams vie for a first-round playoff home game next Friday.

Eason put the Bronchos up in the 75th minute with her team-leading 14th goal of the season.

Central Oklahoma took 14 shots on the night and put eight shots on goal. Eason took five herself and put four on goal. Madison Motil, Haley Post, and Taryn Kedzior all took two shots apiece.

The Broncho defense held Newman to just eight total shots and only four were on target. Asher saved all four shots that came her way.

Central Oklahoma avenged a scoreless tie with Newman earlier this season in a non-conference match in Edmond. The Bronchos will now face Rogers State Sunday at 1 p.m. in the final game of the 2019 regular season. UCO will open the MIAA Tournament Friday, Nov. 8 at a time and place to be determined.
