Bronchos Roll Over Missouri Western

EDMOND (Oct. 18) – Lauren Jenkins carried the load in the first set, Amanda Desch shined in the second and Courtney Lane dominated in the third as Central Oklahoma overwhelmed Missouri Western Friday night at Hamilton Field House.

The Bronchos rolled to 25-20, 25-14, 25-13 victories for their 11th sweep of the season, improving to 15-6 overall and 7-4 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play.

UCO had a sizzling .360 attack percentage of the match, making just seven errors in 111 attacks while collecting 47 kills.

"We did a good job spreading the ball around offensively," head coach Edgar Miraku said. "Our defense was pretty solid as well and we came out with a good win. I'm really proud of this team for the work they're putting in and we're getting better."

Jenkins had six kills to spark the opening-set win, Desch went 5-of-5 on attacks in the second and Lane notched five kills in the third-set rout that polished off the lopsided win.

Desch hit .588 and finished with a match-high 11 kills in addition to handing out 15 assists and making 13 digs for her fifth triple-double of the season. Lane hit .346 with 10 kills to go along with two service aces and two blocks, while Jenkins hit .400 with eight kills.

The Bronchos also got eight kills from Bailey Combs and five from Malia Kaaiohelo. Ericka Scholl contributed 19 assists and two aces, with Dominique Lipari making a match-leading 18 digs.

Central jumped out to a 12-6 lead in the first set only to see the Griffons rally to tie it at 16-all. The Bronchos regained control with six unanswered points, getting three kills from Jenkins and two kills along with a solo block from Combs.

That made it 22-16 and Jenkins had two more kills the rest of the way to finish off the 25-20 win.

UCO never trailed in the second set as Desch was perfect on the attack and the Bronchos closed the third set with a 15-3 scoring run to break away from a 10-10 tie and complete the sweep.

Central returns to action Tuesday, going to Pittsburg, Kan. For a 6 p.m. league contest against Pittsburg State.
