Bronchos Set School Record With 10-0 Start

KEARNEY, Neb. – The University of Central Oklahoma soccer team moved to 10-0 on the season and set a new school record for the best start in school history after defeating Nebraska Kearney Sunday afternoon 5-0 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play. That moved Central to 3-0 in conference play.

"I'm really proud of this team," UCO head soccer coach Mike Cook said. "They are putting in such a great effort to keep attacking and taking shots and to stay aggressive on defense and keep the other team from taking any shots. They're working very hard in every aspect of the game and it's showing. I'm glad for these girls too because they get to say they set a school record and they're going to remember that forever."

Katie Killion scored the first goal of the game in the seventh minute from a turnover in the box. It was her league-leading 10th goal of the season. She wasn't done.

Fast forward to the second half when Asha Haile got her fifth goal of the season in the 53rd minute off the left wing, assisted by Killion, to make it 2-0 UCO. Killion went on to score the next two goals for the Bronchos, both from rebound shots.

Killion's hat trick made it 4-0 UCO. It was the second hat trick of the season for the senior forward from Broken Arrow, Okla. and the third of her career. The three goals also gave her 12 on the season and 35 for her career. She is now tied for fourth place in career goals scored with Britni Walker and Ashton  Morris.

Morgan Cherry quickly made it 5-0 when the senior forward scored the final goal for UCO in the 70th minute on a beautiful shot from the right side wing, assisted by Camille Greer.

UCO out shot Nebraska Kearney 20-2 on the day and neither of UNK's two shots were on goal. The Broncho defense, which has been better than dominant this season, only allowed three total shots all week and none were on goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Kelsi Gibson played 71 minutes in goal and picked up her ninth win of the season and for the second consecutive game, got a win in goal without making a single save.

The Bronchos are back in Edmond Friday, Oct. 5 at 5 p.m. against Lindenwood. The game was bumped up due to the UCO Athletics Hall of Fame Banquet (7 p.m.) that includes the induction of former Broncho soccer standout Lisa Hansen.
