No. 16 UCO Pounds Lindenwood

EDMOND - The 16th-ranked University of Central Oklahoma soccer team moved to 11-0 on the regular season and 4-0 in MIAA play after defeating Lindenwood Friday evening on Tom Thompson Field.

A Katie Killion hat trick led the way for the Bronchos, who also got a brace from Asha Haile. Killion, who is the back-to-back MIAA Offensive Player of the Week, recorded her third hat trick of the season and the fourth in her career.

"Katie was good tonight," UCO head soccer coach Mike Cook said. "But so was the rest of our offense. Asha was really good. The offense was aggressive. And I'm really proud of the defense too for their efforts. For them to only allow one shot on goal tonight was big."

The first goal of the night, scored by Killion in the fifth minute, was a chip in from the left assisted by Haile. Haile then got herself a goal in the 15th minute from a shot off the rebound of her own shot. She then scored another goal off of a rebound in the 29th minute, making it her seventh goal on the season.

Piper Cannon got her second goal of the season and the third of the game impressively beating the back line and chipping it in past the Lindenwood goalkeeper in the 35th minute. Katy Tullis got the assist on the play.

The fifth goal of the game was scored by Killion in the 50th minute from beating the keeper to the left, assisted by Kelsie Eason. Killion scored her third goal of the game in the 66th minute marking it up as her third hat trick of the season so far. That goal also moved her up to 38 goals for her career and third place for all-time career goals in UCO history.

The final goal of the game was scored by senior, Madison Motil in the 73rd minute off of a break on the right side, assisted by Cannon.

Freshman goalkeeper, Kelsi Gibson played the first half of the game and faced zero shots. Sophomore, Kaitlyn Asher came in the second half and made one save on the only shot she faced. Gibson moved to 10-0 with the win in goal. The true freshman goalkeeper brought her goals against average down to 0.11, which is best in all of NCAA Division II.

The Bronchos are back in action on Sunday at 1 p.m. against 17th-ranked Central Missouri. They are right behind UCO in the National rankings with an 8-1-1 record.

Central Missouri is led by senior Jada Scott, who has 10 goals. Sophomore Makayla Toth has five goals and 30 shots on the season.

UCM is ranked second in the MIAA conference with a 2.6 goals per game average.

UCO will stay in Edmond for the following two games. They host Emporia State on Friday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. and Washburn on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 1 p.m.
