No. 20 UCO Blanks Fort Hays

HAYS, Kan. – The University of Central Oklahoma soccer team defeated Fort Hays State 3-0 to push the 20th-ranked Bronchos to 9-0 on the season and 2-0 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play.

The first goal of the game, scored by Asha Haile, came from a beautiful rebound off the post beating the keeper back right, assisted by Haley Post. Haile continued her attack, scoring the second goal from a feed behind the keeper on an empty net, assisted by Katie Killion and Taryn Kedzior.

Haile scored her third and fourth goals of the season and in just 15 minutes, the undefeated Bronchos held a 2-0 lead.

Morgan Cherry scored the final goal of the game off of an assist from Kelsie Eason, beating the keeper from the right side in the 84th minute of play.

Kelsi Gibson played the full 90 minutes in goal for the Bronchos and earned her seventh shutout in as many games this season – though she didn't make a single save Friday night.

The Broncho defense held FHSU to only one shot on the night and it did not land on goal. Gibson's seven shutouts to start her career is a school record.

UCO, which outshot Hays 17-1 Friday, also tied a school record as a team Friday. The Bronchos' 9-0 start is the best in school history, matching the 2002 squad. A win Sunday would give the 2018 Bronchos the top mark.

The Bronchos travel to Kearney, Neb. for Sunday's matchup to wrap up a five-game road trip.

The Nebraska-Kearney Lopers are 4-5 record on the season and also 2-0 in league play after beating Northeastern State on Friday night. The leaders for the Lopers are senior Ciera Clark with three goals and 10 shots this season and junior Maddie Love with two goals and 13 shots.

The Bronchos are looking to stay undefeated as they head back to Edmond. Sunday's game starts at 1 p.m. in Kearney, Neb.
