UCO Earns Fourth Consecutive Shutout Victory

EDMOND - The University of Central Oklahoma soccer team defeated Midwestern State 2-0 Tuesday evening at Wantland Stadium. They are now 4-0 on the season with another shutout.

UCO has not only shutout each of its first four opponents, it has done so in unique fashion. The Bronchos have won all by a score of 2-0. It's just the second time in school history Central has shutout its first four opponents, tying the previous record set by the 2002 squad.

"We are still telling the team we'd like to see some more offense," UCO head soccer coach Mike Cook said. "But we're doing really well on defense and they're getting the job done. They're taking care of business and I think they're seeing what they are capable of when they work together and work this hard as a team."

The Bronchos got on the scoreboard at 25:26 in the first half from a beautiful free kick from 20 yards out made by Kelsie Eason. Katie Killion had been fouled just outside the 18-yard box on a break. Eason lined up the kick and nailed her first goal of the season.

Killion continued to push the Midwestern defense. She drew another foul, this one inside the box, and earned a penalty kick at 83:21 in the second half. Killion scored her third goal on the season, converting the penalty right up the center to give the Bronchos the 2-0 lead.

Kelsi Gibson played all 90 minutes in goal to earn the win. The freshman keeper has played all 360 minutes in goal for the Bronchos this season, earning all four shutouts. Midwestern only took two shots on the night, and neither were on goal.

Central outshot Midwestern State 13-2. Killion took a team-high five shots, Camille Greer and Camrie Hurst also took two shots on the game.

UCO is back in action on Friday. The Bronchos take on Southwest Baptist at 7 p.m. for their first night game on Tom Thompson Field.
