Fourth-ranked Rambelles Hand UCO Two Losses

SAN ANGELO, Texas (March 7) – Central Oklahoma couldn't keep up with No. 4-ranked Angelo State here Wednesday as the Bronchos dropped a pair of run-rule decisions.

UCO managed just three hits in a 12-2 first-game loss and fell in the nightcap 12-4 after taking a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning.  The Bronchos dropped to 13-7 with the losses, while ASU improved to 21-1 in stretching its winning streak to 20 straight.

"We just got outplayed today in every sense of the word," head coach Cody White said.  "We didn't play very well, but Angelo is really strong in all phases of the game and they had a lot to do with that.  We just have to regroup and get ready for Friday."

Central returns to Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association action Friday, hosting Nebraska-Kearney for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.

The Rambelles seized control early in the opener, taking advantage of four walks and an error in an eight-run second inning.  ASU added one run in the third and another in the fourth to end the game early on the eight-run rule.

UCO's only runs came in the fourth when Morgan Heard had a one-out single and JoBi Heath followed with a home run – her fourth of the season – to left field.

The Bronchos jumped on top quickly in the second contest, going ahead 3-0 in their initial at bat as Tori Ritz had a two-run single and Heath an RBI double.

But ASU responded with two runs in the bottom of the first, then added three in the second and one in the third to go ahead 6-3.  Bailey Thompson was hit by pitch to lead off the fourth and went to third on Heard's double before scoring on Heath's sacrifice fly to draw UCO within 6-4.

The Rambelles pulled away with five runs in the fourth and added one more in the fifth to end the game early.

Thompson and Heard had two hits apiece to lead a nine-hit attack.
