UCO Trounces Tabor

EDMOND – The University of Central Oklahoma men's basketball team defeated Tabor College 96-52 Saturday at Hamilton Field House in the final non-conference game of the 2018-19 season.

The game was also the 100th game of Tom Hankins' term with UCO and he earned his 60th win with the victory, third most in school history through a coaches' first 100 games. UCO moves to 7-4 on the season.

"I'm proud of our guys for coming out ready to play today." Hankins said. "They took advantage of the fast breaks and crashed the boards well."

The Bronchos led the Bluejays 53-14 at halftime. The Central Oklahoma defense forced 11 Tabor turnovers which led to fourteen fast break points for UCO. UCO went on a 17-0 run in the first half. The run really got started when Dashon Bell got it on the fast-break, dished it to Jordan Hemphill, who then passed it up to Adarius Avery for a big dunk. Josh Holliday had nine points in that run, going 3-3 from the three-point line. UCO also had a 12-0 run before a Tabor bucket. The 29-5 stretch aided in the big UCO halftime lead.

The second half started out slow for both teams until both stopped forcing shots which led to scoring possessions on both sides of the court. Avery started the scoring for the Bronchos in the half with back-to-back jump shots.

The Bronchos had 22 assists on 37 field goals. Marquis Johnson and Jordan London had five assists each. UCO shot 53 percent from the field and 83 percent from the free-throw line. The entire Central Oklahoma team scored in today's matchup and six had double figures.

Jaylan Williams led the Bronchos with 15 points and seven total rebounds. Avery had 14 points, only playing 20 minutes, scoring every basket he took, going 7-for-7 from the field.

Bell had 13 points and five total rebounds. Holliday had 12 and Cooper Clark added 11.

The 44-point margin of victory was UCO's largest since beating East Central by 61 (125-64) during the 2008-09 season.

The Bronchos are back in action on Thursday, Jan. 3 at 7:30 in Hamilton Field House against Missouri Western. UCO will play its final of three-straight home games against Northwest Missouri Saturday, Jan. 5 at 3:30 p.m.
